Jefferson City school superintended to retire at the end of school year

The superintendent of the Jefferson City School District will retire at the end of the school year.

The district made the announcement after a closed school board meeting Friday that Larry Linthacum will be leaving the job. Linthacum has been superintendent in Jefferson City since 2015. Before that, he was superintendent for schools in Maryville, Missouri and Bethany, Missouri.

Linthacum will begin a new job as president and CEO of Special Olympics in July.
