Jefferson City voters turned thumbs down on an internet use tax during Tuesday’s election.
Organizer Gary Wilbers says the failed Proposition ‘L’ was designed to level the playing field for local retailers.
“The only time you’ll have it, is if you’re buying something on the internet, from out of state,” he said before the vote.
Use taxes also failed last year in Boone County, Ashland, Harrisburg and Columbia. Columbia’s use tax failed in November 2017 by only about 100 votes.
