A family dog was found dead after a southwest Columbia house fire Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to Center Brook Court near Scott Boulevard and Route KK at about 3 p.m.
The department arrived to find smoke billowing out of a fire that seemed to be coming from the kitchen of the home.
Investigators are still working to learn how the blaze started, and estimate the amount of damage.
With the exception of the family’s dog, no one was in the house at the time of the fire.
