Late withdrawals extend some candidate filing periods

Late withdrawls by candidates within two days of Tuesday’s close of the filing period for 2024 elections cause the filing period to re-open for four days in the following week. So filing for the U.S. House of Representative’s seat from the third Congressional District, which includes Columbia, Jefferson City and much of mid-Missouri, will remain open until April 5. This is the seat in congress being sought by former state senator Kurt Schaefer, a Republican from Columbia. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, a state senator from Arnold, pulled out of the campaign for congress this week and instead decided to run for secretary of state.
