Fulton’s Serve Inc. has received a $10,000 donation for its food pantry facility in Fulton, thanks to Callaway Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.
Callaway Bank chief executive officer Kim Barnes tells 939 the Eagle that some of the people who need help from Serve’s food pantry are working multiple jobs:
“Food insecurity is a real problem in rural Missouri and Callaway County is not exempt from that. SERVE does a great job of stretching resources that are very thin and have gotten in thinner in recent times,” she says.
Callaway Bank has donated about $47,000 overall to five local non-profits, with Serve being one of them. Because of FHLB Des Moines’ member impact fund, Callaway Bank was able to bring $139,000 in additional funding that will help the five non-profits.
Meantime, a $100,000 donation from Callaway Bank is making a big difference for the Callaway County YMCA’s community pool campaign. Fulton and Callaway County have a large elderly population. Ms. Barnes says the YMCA needs a better pool facility to make sure there is water safety:
“That we can take advantage of water therapy for older folks or people rehabilitating. And recreational things for people of all ages,” Barnes says.
She tells 939 the Eagle that the donation puts the Callaway County YMCA over the “tipping point”, so they can apply for a larger foundation grant to get the project done. Barnes says it’s humbling for Callaway Bank to make this donation.
