The median price of a single-family home in Columbia in July was $389,000, breaking the previous record of $375,000.
While they don’t use the term “affordable housing”, Columbia-based Hemme Construction is trying to address that with what they describe as attainable housing. Sixth-generation homebuilder Orie Hemme spoke Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable”, telling listeners about the Amberton Place neighborhood they’re building in northwest Columbia, near the Knights of Columbus:
“That neighborhood is … we’re chasing the attainable housing market. We feel like Columbia needs that,” Mr. Hemme says.
He tells listeners some of those homes are in the $275,000 to $300,000 range.
The Mid-Missouri Board of Realtors released the July home statistics last week. The 30-year-old Hemme, who has been full-time for eight years, joined host Fred Parry Saturday on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable”, saying those homes are 1,300 to 1,500 square feet:
“We will have a neighborhood pool. It’s in a future phase. That will be exciting for the neighborhood. And then a large percentage of my development is actually green space,” Mr. Hemme says.
