Columbia’s city manager says Water and Light is starting significant upgrades that will restore the reliability and capacity of the McBaine water treatment plant. City manager De’Carlon Seewood highlighted the issue during his recent state of the city address:
“This construction project will include rehabilitation and replacement of aging infrastructure, which will enhance the performance and extend the life of this critical facility. Construction of this project is anticipated to begin this summer and will take approximately two years to complete,” Mr. Seewood says.
Columbia voters approved the water ballot initiative at the polls in 2018. Columbia’s city council voted in September to approve the issuance of $27-million in revenue bonds. Columbia Water and Light treats and transports water to about 51,000 customers in a 89-square mile service area, according to the city’s website.
