LISTEN): CPOA President Nichols blasts Knoth recall on 939 the Eagle

A Columbia city council member was recalled from office last night for the first time in almost 34 years. First ward councilman Nick Knoth lost his recall race on Tuesday 531-394. Mr. Knoth was elected to Columbia’s city council in April 2023 and since has taken a job with the Missouri Realtors. Recall organizers in the first ward say Knoth’s job as a lobbyist with the Missouri Realtors was a conflict of interest with his elected position. But Councilman Knoth disputed that, as does the Columbia Police Officers Association (CPOA). CPOA president Matt Nichols joined us live on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”, telling listeners that Knoth was targeted by those who want to abolish the police, adding that the first ward is riddled with crime. Nichols is upset that Councilman Knoth was recalled. Nichols is also praising the election of second ward Columbia councilman Lisa Meyer.
