The U.S. Senate has approved legislation that formally designates the National Churchill Museum in mid-Missouri’s Fulton as a national historic landmark.

U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) is sponsoring the Senate bill, and U.S. Rep. Bob Onder (R-Missouri) sponsors the House bill. Fulton is in Congressman Onder’s district, and he tells 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Missouri” that the 80th anniversary of Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s “Iron Curtain” speech is in March:

“Which really was a warning to the West of the dangers of imperialistic communism and really represented a point at which the western world came together to secure freedom and democracy,” Congressman Onder says.

Onder tells listeners that the bill is a critical step toward preserving Winston Churchill’s legacy for future generations:

“It has already passed the Senate. Last week it passed the House Natural Resources Committee so I’m hoping it will be on the floor and off to the President’s desk shortly,” he says.

Congressman Onder says the designation ensures that the museum at Fulton’s Westminster College continues to educate future leaders for generations to come.
