Missouri’s junior senator says there’s a lack of understanding among a lot of his congressional colleagues about what the role of the federal government is. U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt (R) joined us live on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Mid-Missouri”:

“It’s not a federal government, state government, local government in that order. The states came together to agree unanimously on a Constitution, on the limited powers that the federal government is supposed to have. The powers that the federal government doesn’t have are retained by the states,” Senator Schmitt says.

Senator Schmitt also tells listeners that Social Security must be protected, saying Congress wastes billions of dollars on programs. Senator Schmitt and U.S. Rep. Jason Smith (R-Salem), who chairs the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, say Social Security will be insolvent by 2032-2033.
