Thousands of people from across the state will travel to west-central Missouri’s Sedalia for Thursday morning’s opening of the state fair.
It’s Mizzou Day at the fair, with a $7-dollar gate admission all day for those 13 and older and $2 for youth ages six to 12. Governor Mike Kehoe will be in Sedalia today and tells 939 the Eagle that you’ll see a big focus on agriculture:
“Well the (Missouri) state fair is the absolute showcase of who we are as a state. We’re an agrarian state, number two in the United States at 87,000 family-owned farms,” the governor says.
You’ll see UM System President Dr. Mun Choi and other Mizzou representatives at the state fair in Sedalia today.
Five-time Grammy award winner and country music legend Wynonna Judd will perform on this evening’s opening night. She is known for hit songs like “Tell me Why” and “Grandpa.” Wynonna Judd performs at 7:30 pm at grandstand. Governor Kehoe is pleased with the entertainment lineup with Wynonna and for the entire fair.
The governor tells 939 the Eagle that the state fair showcases and develops tomorrow’s future agriculture leaders:
“We have a great lineup this year. So it’s where the future of agriculture starts as you see these young men and women who come and bring their projects there. Whether it’s FFA or 4-H, that’s really where our future of agriculture is. It’s an enjoyable time for people and their family as well,” says Governor Kehoe.
Governor Kehoe and First Lady Claudia Kehoe will do a cooking demonstration today at 12:15 in the state fair’s home economics building. You’ll also find a farm toy show on the state fairgrounds today. This morning’s opening day ceremony begins at 11 in Sedalia, with the opening day parade this evening at 6 on Missouri State Fair Boulevard.
