The Missouri Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs are set for Saturday afternoon’s top 15 showdown in Athens, between the hedges.

Mizzou is 7-1 and ranked at number 12 in the initial College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, their highest-ever in program history. The Dawgs are 8-0 and ranked #1 in the nation, in addition to being the two-time defending national champions. Georgia has also won 25 straight games, which is a school record. Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz emphasized the importance of finishing during this week’s “Tiger Talk.”

“When you walk into our weight room, it says start fast but finish strong. And no matter what we do, we want to be known as finishers. And it’s been a great start to the season. But it’s all going to be about how we finish, how we finish this month. How we finish in our preparation this week and how we finish in the game,” Drinkwitz says.

Sanford Stadium in Athens is one of the loudest venues in college football. It’s an intimidating atmosphere. Mizzou’s defense has been outstanding, with 24 sacks. Four-and-a-half of those sacks are from standout defensive lineman Darius Robinson, who’s impressed with Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. Robinson notes Beck is tall, about six feet four and is a baseball player:

“He kind of throws like from the same angle so he’s very accurate, he makes a of plays for his team. I think he’s a good leader, you know he’s doing everything he keep his team successful but it’s all about us this week. So we just have to get better and practice hard,” Robinson says.

Mizzou averages 34 points a game, while allowing just 23 points per game. The Tigers are led by standout quarterback Brady Cook, who’s completed 70 percent of his 242 passes. Cook has thrown for 2,259 yards and has 15 touchdowns, with just three interceptions.

Kickoff for tomorrow afternoon’s showdown at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium is set for 2:37, with pregame coverage on Central Bank Tiger Radio Network Zimmer affiliate stations KTGR (FM 100.5) and KCMQ (FM 96.7) starting at 12:30. It will also be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports.
