More than 400 people are already registered to participate in Saturday’s Columbia walk to end Alzheimer’s at Stephens Lake park.

First State Community Bank vice president Valerie Livingston, an event organizer, lost her parents to the disease. She tells 939 the Eagle that walk heals your heart:
“And let you know that it’s going to be okay. It’s tough, it’s hard but there are people here going through the same thing that are going to help you,” she says.

Valerie brought her mother to the walk for several years, and her mother participated in a wheelchair.
Registration for Saturday’s walk starts at 10 am and the opening ceremony is at 11. There will be hundreds of walkers Saturday at Columbia’s Stephens Lake park. Ms. Livingston tells 939 the Eagle that the walk raises critical dollars for research:
“We want to fight this disease. We are taking this money and it’s going even locally into research. So we can find a cure,” she says.
Ms. Livingston emphasizes they want to prevent this disease, slow this disease and cure it. This year’s goal is $195,000 and they’ve already raised more than $59,000. You can find a link to register here, or you can just show up Saturday morning and donate what you can and walk. Registration starts at 10 am.
