The Salvation Army of Columbia is encouraging floats and entries of all kinds for November’s Christmas parade against poverty.

Salvation Army Major Nancy Powers describes the Christmas parade as one of Columbia’s most beloved traditions. Major Powers tells 939 the Eagle that the parade also gives us the opportunity to be equal:
“Together we enjoy the bands, we enjoy the beautiful float going by. It is something that money really doesn’t make a difference. It’s just a time to come and enjoy,” Major Powers says.

“Cosmo and Kat”, the popular morning team from from Zimmer’s Y-107, are serving as Christmas chairs and parade grand marshals.

The Salvation Army of Columbia wants to see November’s downtown Christmas parade against poverty be a world-class community event that brings families together. 939 the Eagle’s parent company, Zimmer Communications, the “Columbia Missourian” and Channel 13 are sponsoring the parade. Salvation Army of Columbia community relations manager Sean Spence predicts that will get more people to the parade:
“Having the media folks involved in such a high-level will increase the attendance, and it will just allow us to share this with so much more of the community,” Mr. Spence says.
The Christmas parade against poverty will take place on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 23 at 3 pm. It begins at Broadway and Hitt downtown and ends several blocks away at Broadway and Providence.
