Local COVID-19 Update (Dec. 9)

Boone County reported two more COVID-19 deaths Wednesday. Health officials say one patient was between 65 and 69 years old, and the other was older than 80. A total of 34 Boone County residents have died from the illness.

There were 206 new coronavirus cases reported in Boone County Wednesday, and active cases went up a lot, to 1,002. Hospitalizations also went up, to 150, and are still putting a strain on resources.

Cole County confirmed its 68th COVID-19 death Wednesday. There were 65 new coronavirus cases reported in the county, too.

Callaway County had 64 new cases reported on Wednesday. Active cases dropped to 674.

Missouri’s death toll from the coronavirus are rising sharply. The state on Tuesday announced 161 new fatalities. One county alone reported 27 deaths over the past two days. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department cited 19 deaths Monday and eight more Tuesday. All but four of the victims were 70 or older, 17 lived in long-term care facilities and all had underlying health conditions. Greene County officials say 51 of the county’s 247 COVID-19 deaths have happened since Dec. 1.
