Cole County reports three more COVID-19 deaths

Cole County reports three more deaths due to COVID-19 Wednesday. The county has confirmed 19 deaths due to the illness since the pandemic began.

Cole reported 29 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, and active cases fell to 218.

Boone County reported Wednesday a 16th county resident has died from COVID-19. Health officials say the patient was between 75 and 79 years old. There were 68 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. Active cases went back up, to 380. Hospitalizations fell again from their record-high levels, to 85, and are still below capacity. Boone County’s positive test rate is at 12%.

Callaway County reported its eighth death from the illness in the county overall and the third reported in the last five days. On Wednesday, the county had a much lower active case count of 101. Health officials say they have removed the numbers from the local Department of Corrections and Fulton State Hospital. They say removing the numbers provides a more accurate representation of the general public in light of recent increases.

Moniteau and Saline counties also reported an additional COVID-19 death. It’s the ninth death in Moniteau and the 14th in Saline.

State health officials say the state confirmed 1,405 COVID-19 cases, which is a drop from record numbers reported during the weekend. The new cases confirmed Monday bring the state’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases to 158,101. On Saturday, the state reported a record 2,357 new cases, and another 1,768 cases on Sunday. Deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic rose to 2,590 Monday, eight more than reported Sunday. The Park Hill School District in suburban Kansas City reported Monday that a college student who worked with several of the school’s athletes died Sunday of COVID-19. The district said LeAndra Breann Stang was training to be an athletic trainer.

Missouri continued to report record numbers of coronavirus cases over the weekend and the rate of positive cases remains high across the state. On Saturday, the state reported a record 2,357 new cases of COVID-19. Sunday’s increase of 1,768 cases reported on the state’s online virus tracker was smaller but still substantial. The state now has 156,696 cases of the virus and 2,582 deaths since the pandemic began. The state said the positivity rate for coronavirus tests over the last seven days is 19.7%, and six counties reported rates above 50%. Gov. Mike Parson has refused to require mask wearing in Missouri.
