Columbia’s congresswoman supports President Trump’s push for a longer border wall.
“Ninety percent of the heroin that is ending up in our districts, and people are overdosing and died, is coming across the southern border,” Republican Rep. Vicky Hartzler says to Missourinet.
Fellow mid-Missouri U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer says southern border security is an emergency for the country.
“Why do we not want to protect our people, protect our country, protect our economy, protect our citizens from all these drugs flowing across…why would we not want to do that? I don’t understand the mindset,” Luetkemeyer tells Missourinet.
Missouri Democrat Emmanuel Cleaver points to a report from the DEA that says most drugs come thru legal points of entry, so a wall would not help much.
Congress is trying to avoid another government shutdown this week.
