Dozens of area roads were still closed as of Tuesday morning, because of historic flooding.
Columbia Regional Airport reports 4.49″ of rain since Saturday. It also had record daily rains on Saturday (2.20″) and Monday (1.15″).
Highway 63 is among the big area road closures, just south of Vienna. The Maries Co. Sheriff said on Facebook Tuesday morning the closure could last for sometime. See a full updated list here. Boone County’s road closures are here.
The flood gates on Bagnell Dam will be open for some time to come. Ameren Hydro operations director Warren Witt says the Lake of the Ozarks continues to rise as of late Monday. The level was 663 feet at the dam site. Witt expects the lake to crest sometime within the next 24 hours. Witt is warning landowners along the shore of the lake at the Osage River to disconnect any electricity supplies before junction boxes go underwater. He also says to make sure a qualified electrician helps you turn the power back on once the waters recede.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s office has identified the two Dixon residents drowned when their vehicle was swept off Highway O near Dixon Saturday night. Dead are 53-year-old Ron Gray and 50-year-old Sandra Tilley. Searchers continued Monday to look for the body of a possible fifth victim of Saturday night’s drowning near Crocker. At least four soldiers from foreign countries training at Fort Leonard Wood died when their vehicle was swept off Highway U near Buffalo Road.
