Lockdown lifted at Columbia elementary school after nearby gunshots

The search is on for two suspects after a lockdown at Columbia’s Blue Ridge Elementary.

CPD confirms multiple shots were fired on Leeway Drive near Blue Ridge Road and Brown Station Road.

It prompted the nearby school to go on a “modified lockdown” status, during which classes continue but no one is allowed in or out of the building.

The lockdown was lifted after about 25 minutes.

Officers found five shell casings at the scene and damage to two nearby apartment buildings.

There were no injuries and police are now searching for two male suspects who were in a silver SUV.

“The driver was described as a black male with long hair,” said CPD’s Jeff Pitts. “There is no description of the passenger. The vehicle left the area prior to the officers’ arrival.”

Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at (573)874-7652 or Crimestoppers at (573)875-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
