The veteran Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief has announced his retirement, after 23 years with the department and 35 years in the fire service.

Gale Blomenkamp’s retirement was effective Wednesday, saying the time has come to begin a new chapter in his life.
In his retirement letter, obtained by 939 the Eagle, he says that due to ongoing complications following a recent hip replacement, he’s come to the realization that now is the right time to step away from a profession that’s been rewarding and fulfilling in many ways. Mr. Blomenkamp thanks his family for their love and support and praises the citizens of Boone County for their trust and support over the years.
He also says he leaves with immense pride in the Boone County Fire Protection District and confidence in the dedicated men and woman who will continue carrying the mission forward.
What’s next: Mr. Blomenkamp’s retirement was effective on Wednesday June 17.
