Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Scott White tells 939 the Eagle that troopers will be participating in Operation CARE, which stands for crash awareness and reduction effort:

“We simply ask the public that whether they’re on the water or the road, we just remind everybody it is their responsibility to travel safely and observe all of our laws,” Captain White says.

Captain White says speed, inattention and impaired driving are the leading causes of traffic crashes.

Missouri state troopers are urging you to make sure your vehicle is in good working condition, before you hit the road for your Labor Day holiday weekend. Captain White tells 939 the Eagle that 15 Missouri motorists were killed and another 477 were injured in more than 1,000 traffic crashes during the 2023 Labor Day holiday weekend:

“We can look at those numbers and on paper they are statistics, but in reality it’s people’s lives. I mean we’re talking 15 people, 15 families who have been affected forever. And those 477 that were injured, some of those were lifelong disabling injuries,” says White.

Captain White says troopers also arrested 125 motorists for driving while intoxicated during last year’s holiday weekend. He says the Patrol’s marine enforcement troopers are also working this weekend to make Missouri waterways safer.

This year’s counting period for the Labor Day holiday is from 6 pm Friday August 30 through 11:59 pm on Monday, which is Labor Day.
