Lt. Gov. points to COVID-19 concerns at state-run vets homes

Many of Missouri’s victims of COVID-19 are residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe says Missouri has seen an alarming number of deaths in state-run veterans’ homes.

“Even if you have all of the processes in place to keep the virus out, you still have employees, vendors [that] might not in their own time been following the guidelines on how to stay safe.”

As of mid-November, nearly 100 residents of the seven state-run veterans homes have died from the virus. They are licensed for about 1,240 beds.

An independent review found Missouri veterans homes did not take the virus seriously enough at first, or act quickly enough to prevent its spread.
