A Columbia woman and former spa owner convicted of killing her husband in 2017 will learn her fate Monday afternoon. Lynlee Renick’s 2:30 pm sentencing will be broadcast nationwide on Court TV.
Renick was convicted in December of second degree murder and armed criminal action for the death of her husband, Ben. He was shot to death in his Montgomery County snake barn.
A jury was imported from Clay County to hear the case, and they’ve recommended a 13-year prison sentence for second degree murder and three years on the ACA count. Judge Kevin Crane will make the final decision on sentencing.
Missouri Assistant Attorney General Kevin Zoellner told jurors in December that Lynlee killed her husband for money, sex and freedom. Defense attorneys have said that co-defendant Michael Humphrey of Jefferson City killed Ben Renick: Humphrey testified against Lynlee Renick during her trial and has been convicted of second degree murder.
The case has ties to both Columbia and Jefferson City.
“Dateline NBC” and CBS’ “48 Hours” both had crews at the courthouse during the trial.
