The man linked with a Jefferson City murder earlier this year pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
ABC 17 reports Marquis Avant of St. Louis will serve five years of probation after pleading guilty on Monday to unlawful use of a weapon.
He was originally facing a second-degree murder charge.
Avant told police he fired two shots in the air at a party in April. Several other shots were heard afterwards.
The shooting left Robert Scott dead and another person injured.
