Columbia Public Works says the city’s annual dry snow run training exercise will start at about 9:30 am. Public Works division crews and staff from other departments involved in winter weather response will review safety procedures and will also rehearse snow routes to prepare for winter. The crews and plows will be leaving the Grissum building near the Business Loop at about 9:30, and you’ll see snowplow trucks driving their designated routes across Columbia, simulating real-time response efforts.

Columbia maintains more than 1,400 miles of streets and 11-hundred cul-de-sacs. Public Works spokesman John Ogan tells 939 the Eagle that while there is no snowplow driver shortage, many of the drivers are rookies. That means today’s exercise will give them time to practice with experienced drivers.
