Mid-Missouri motorist killed in collision with trash truck

A head-on collision Monday morning between a vehicle and a trash truck on Highway 124 in Boone County has killed a motorist from mid-Missouri’s Higbee.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report says the incident happened at about 6:45 Monday morning, when 51-year-old Samuel Ancell of Higbee crossed the center line on 124 and traveled into the path of a trash truck. Ancell’s vehicle then caught fire, according to state troopers. Ancell was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The trash truck slammed into a tree, but the 35-year-old Columbia driver was not injured. Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief Gale Blomenkamp tells 939 the Eagle that the crash closed Highway 124 for about three-and-a-half hours.
