Mid-Missouri stores expected to see boost with sales tax holiday weekend

Missouri’s back-to-school sales tax holiday is underway this (Friday) morning and continues through Sunday.

Under state law, certain back-to-school purchases like school supplies, computers, and clothes are exempt from the state sales tax this weekend, and you do not have to be a student to participate.

Columbia, Jefferson City, Ashland and Kingdom City are a few of the cities that have opted out, which means city sales tax will still be collected this weekend on those qualifying items in those towns.

Democratic Governor Bob Holden signed the bipartisan sales tax holiday bill into law in 2004.
