Missouri’s attorney general praises the U.S. Department of Energy’s decision to terminate a loan guarantee for the controversial Grain Belt Express project across northern Missouri.

Grain Belt wants to build, own and manage a high-voltage transmission line across eight north Missouri counties: Buchanan, Clinton, Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Randolph, Monroe and Ralls. Chariton, Randolph and Monroe counties are in the 939 the Eagle listening area.
GOP Attorney General Andrew Bailey describes the Grain Belt Express as a “multi-billion dollar green energy scam that threatened Missouri’s famers, landowners and rural communities.” General Bailey also describes it as a $5-billion taxpayer funded boondoggle. Supporters of the project view it differently: they say the project would benefit the greater good of Missouri and would generate about $7-million annually in property taxes to Missouri political subdivisions.
Missouri Farm Bureau and other commodity groups oppose the project.
