Missouri breaks daily coronavirus case record for third straight day

Missouri sets a coronavirus case record for the third straight day. It’s the third day in a row the daily case count has surpassed 1,000.

Another 1,637 new positives were confirmed Thursday, breaking Wednesday’s record by more than 300. Officials pointed to a data entry backlog this month as one reason for the high number, but also said the latest seven-day rolling positivity rate has increased to 7.0 percent, indicating community transmission. Another 20 Missourians have died from COVID-19, for a total of 1,179.

Boone County confirmed 25 new cases Thursday. Cole County missed a daily record by one, with 14 new cases confirmed. Callaway reported four new positives. Moniteau County added nine new cases. Saline County added five.
