Schneider Electric says a planned $73-million expansion at their facility on Columbia’s Route B will strengthen Missouri’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing.

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe and Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe are among the speakers at Tuesday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony at the plant, which used to be called Square D. The expansion is expected to create 241 new jobs.
Boone County presiding commissioner Kip Kendrick has told 939 the Eagle that Schneider Electric will invest $53-million in manufacturing equipment, which would allow them to add a significant amount of manufacturing lines. He says they also plan to invest about $20-million in additional warehouse space. The 241 new jobs will pay above Boone County’s average wage, which means the jobs will pay more than $48,000.
Columbia/Boone County taxing jurisdictions have approved Chapter 100 tax abatement for Schneider Electric. Mr. Kendrick notes there is strong demand for products made in that Columbia plant.
