Missouri highway safety conference to wrap up Wednesday in Columbia

Federal highway officials are in Columbia on this Wednesday morning to deliver a report to a few hundred transportation professionals, law enforcement officers and safety advocates.

Missouri’s 2021 highway safety and traffic conference wraps up at the Holiday Inn Select.

The Federal Highway Administration and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will be delivering updates, and there will also be a presentation about autonomous vehicles. Those are self-driving vehicles.

The keynote speakers will be Jacy Good and Steve Johnson, who will deliver a presentation called “Hang Up and Drive.” Their speech will involve distracted driving, including texting while driving.

It’s a theme Governor Parson emphasized during his Monday opening address. State Sen. Greg Razer (D-Kansas City) plans to pre-file legislation in December, that would ban texting while driving.
