Missouri holds bicentennial inauguration events Monday

It’s a historic inauguration day at the state Capitol. Missouri is also celebrating its 200th birthday this year.

Bicentennial remarks were scheduled to start at about 11 a.m. Monday. Oaths of office will be administered to statewide officeholders after that. Governor Parson will deliver his inaugural address at about noon.

Even though security is heightened following last week’s riot in Washington, Republican state Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin said late last week she does not expect any trouble here.

“The vast majority of conservatives are patriotic. They love their country. They are not trouble-causing or violence-inciting types of people.”

Parson will deliver his first inaugural address after assuming the job when Eric Grietens resigned in 2018. Parson won the general election last November.
