Missouri House votes on state budget Wednesday

Missouri’s budget will get a boost of $13 million in federal COVID-19 funding.

Rep. Cody Smith, the Missouri House budget committee chairman, says that should keep the state from having to dip into its rainy day fund.

“The preference would be to spend those federal dollars first as they come down,” Smith says to Missourinet. “Save that initial $7 million in existing appropriations for other things as they might come about.”

The full Missouri House is set to vote on the state budget Wednesday and Thursday, before leaving for a week of spring break. The Missouri Senate is off until the end of the month due to new coronavirus concerns.
