Missouri lawmakers advance drone legislation

JEFFERSON CITY, (AP): Missouri lawmakers are advancing legislation that would make it a crime to fly drones near a prison or mental hospital because of concerns they could be used to deliver drugs or weapons.

A Senate bill passed Thursday would make it a felony offense to use a drone to deliver contraband or aid an escape.

A similar House version passed last month also includes a misdemeanor offense for purposely flying a drone within 300 feet of a prison or mental facility.

In order for it to go to the governor, both chambers must pass identical versions.
