Voters in Jefferson City and Columbia didn’t think much of the idea when it was on local ballots. But Governor Parson and many Missouri lawmakers think an internet tax on out of state companies is the way to go.
Callaway County Rep. Travis Fitzwater says he’s heard from his constituents who say potential customers price shop at their stores and then buy the same product online to save the sales tax.
“I think that’s a fairness issue in our marketplace, and I think all the businesses in our state should be able to play on the same footing.”
Governor Parson says the online tax could generate over $100 million a year.
