Missouri River hits historic Jefferson City crest

The Missouri River on Friday morning hit its projected crest of 31.5 feet in Jefferson City, a top-ten all-time crest.

That is causing problems for some downtown streets and for homes in low lying areas on the west side of Jefferson City. The Missouri Boulevard/McCarty Street intersection is closing Friday due to flooding, according to MoDot. Highway 179 is already closed at Cole County Route Z. The Jefferson City airport has been evacuated. The Salute to Veterans airshow has been canceled.
