Missouri’s governor has signed an executive order, closing most state offices on Black Friday. That means most state employees will have Thanksgiving and the following Friday off.

Governor Mike Parson praises state employees, saying he and the First Lady are thankful for their hard work and dedication.

“Thanksgiving is an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends, and it reminds us to always count our blessings and remember all the good in our lives,” the governor says, in a written statement.

More than 14,000 state employees work in Jefferson City, making state government the town’s largest employer.

Emergency services such as the Missouri State Highway Patrol will still be working.
