Missouri voters have overwhelmingly approved an extension of Missouri’s parks, soils and water sales tax.
Amendment One passed Tuesday with more than 82 percent of the vote.
The one-tenth of one percent sales tax was created through a constitutional amendment in 1984 and it’s now been reapproved by voters five times: 1988, 1996, 2006, 2016 and 2026.
Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) director Kurt Schaefer says the tax generates about $136-million annually. That money gets split between the 93 state parks and historic sites and the other goes to soil and water conservation districts.
