Saying that Vladamir Putin is a “madman,” Missouri’s state treasurer is calling for an emergency meeting of the state MOSERS board of trustees.
MOSERS is the acronym for the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System. It’s based in Jefferson City, and has an 11-person board. MOSERS was established in 1957, by state law.
Missouri Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick (R) wants to prevent the future purchase of Russian securities and wants to discuss the divestment of existing Russian holdings. Fitzpatrick says it’s time for the world to cut Putin off.
“I’m calling on all other Missouri pension plans to follow suit in ensuring no public funds are used to help prop up the Russian economy as long as these atrocities continue,” Fitzpatrick says, in a written statement.
CNN reports Russia has ramped up assaults on key Ukrainian cities, as President Zelensky pleads for more international assistance.
