Mizzou officials seek dismissal from Title IX case

Lawyers at Mizzou are trying to get former and current administrators dismissed from several counts of a lawsuit claiming the school violated the civil rights of a student.

ABC 17 reports that student, Jeremy Rowles, believes he was given harsher punishment than white men accused of similar sexual harassment violations.

Rowles, who is black, repeatedly asked a woman out on a date, and took several of her dance classes on campus. He was suspended from UM System campuses for two years, and banned from the dorms and rec center in Columbia for life.

One administrator said “asking someone out on a date who is smaller” qualifies as having power or authority over them, according to the report.
