Mizzou softball hosts NCAA Tournament regional

Mizzou softball is in position to make its first College World Series since 2011.

The Tigers start NCAA Tournament action at home against Illinois-Chicago on Friday afternoon on 100.5/105.1 KTGR. If the Tigers win the regional this weekend, they would also get to host the super-regional.

Coach Larissa Anderson says MU has had much tougher draws in past years.

“When you see that we were rewarded with the 8-seed, it’s like about time. About time we got some recognition and we got some appreciation for what this program has done,” Anderson said on KTGR. “We’ve earned it.”

Iowa State and Northern Iowa are the others in the four-team regional. They play first on Friday afternoon.

The NCAA and local health officials removed fan capacity limits at Mizzou Softball Stadium this week. Anderson says just hosting a regional for the first time in five years is not enough.

“We’re not going to be satisfied not winning this regional. We want to be able to continue into super-regionals. Obviously, you’re in a much better situation hosting. Phase one has been taken care of. And now we have to make sure we take care of everything on the field to give ourselves the best chance to be able to advance.”
