Look for heavy traffic today and Thursday around Mizzou’s campus in Columbia. They are both move-in days, where students discover their new living spaces and settle in for the school year. That will be happening at residence halls across campus. Mizzou officials will also be serving ice cream treats this evening from 7-9 at the Carnahan quadrangle near Jesse hall.

The UM System president is expecting an 18 percent increase in the size of this year’s freshman class, compared to August 2023. UM System president Dr. Mun Choi tells 939 the Eagle’s Fred Parry that the numbers are remarkable:

“We’re going to have about 1,050 more freshmen this year compared to last year. That’s a big jump Fred considering the demographics of high school graduates,” President Choi says.

President Choi, who also serves as Mizzou’s chancellor, credits affordability and high-quality education for the increase. He also credits Mizzou’s football success. The Cotton Bowl champions finished 11-2 last year, finishing the season ranked #8 in the nation.

President Choi says parents and students are excited:

“You know students and their parents are recognizing more and more the value of a high-quality affordable education provided by our university,” says Dr. Choi.

President Choi will be host Fred Parry’s guest Saturday morning from 7-8 on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable” program. Dr. Choi will be in-studio for the hour.
