The heavily-damaged Sorrels overpass over I-70 near Columbia must be demolished by November 8, under a $1 million contract awarded by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).
MoDOT says Columbia-based Emery Sapp and Sons can begin work as early as today. The 63-year-old overpass sustained significant damage when it was struck by a passing truck last Monday.
MoDOT says there will be closures along I-70 as the demolition takes place. The closures, which have not been scheduled yet, will take place overnight. The majority will be single-lane closures.
The overpass was built in 1958.
