State transportation crews plan to begin rehabilitation work on the northbound Highway 63 bridge over I-70 in Columbia this week.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says that work requires extending the single-lane head-to-head traffic configuration on Highway 63 in Columbia. The existing work zone narrows Highway 63 to one lane in each direction between the Broadway overpass and the Conley road underpass. Starting Wednesday, MoDOT says all through traffic on Highway 63 between Broadway and Vandiver will be shifted onto the southbound lanes and narrowed to one lane in each direction in a head-to-head configuration.
The work is part of the massive $2.8-billion plan to rebuild and expand I-70 between Wentzville and Blue Springs. The first phase of the project is the $405-million I-70 project between Columbia and Kingdom City, which has been happening for about a year.
