More reporting delays on Missouri COVID-19 deaths; more than 10,000 total positives

A delay in reporting caused a large increase in the number of COVID-19 deaths in Missouri.

Total deaths in the state are up to 524 as of Tuesday, which is 34 higher than Monday’s number. State officials say due to a reporting delay in one jurisdiction, some of the 34 new deaths reported took place between April 24 and May 10.

Statewide positive coronavirus cases increased by fewer than 100 for the second straight day. Another 88 cases were reported Tuesday, for a total of 10,006.

The active coronavirus case count stays low in local counties. Boone County has five active, Cole has three, and Callaway has two. No new positives were reported in those counties on Tuesday.

Saline County leads mid-Missouri with 56 active cases, with nine new positives reported Tuesday. Total cases in the county are up to 227.

Pettis County reported its first death from COVID-19 on Monday. As of Tuesday, that county had 45 active cases.
