Layoffs as Watlow moves some operations to Mexico

More than 40 people in Columbia will be looking for new jobs starting Friday.

Watlow is moving some of its operations, including gas delivery and line heating production, out of its Columbia factory and into Queretaro, Mexico.

The thermal systems manufacturer has operated the Columbia plant since 1979.

Watlow said in a release Monday that 41 people will be laid off Friday, with another round of layoffs coming in July.  The company says the layoff decisions were based on seniority.
