Thursday is Juneteenth, which is a federal, Missouri, county and city holiday.
Most federal, state, county and city offices are closed today, with the exception of emergency services like the Missouri State Highway Patrol and sheriff departments. Most of Jefferson City’s 14,000 state employees have the day off as well. Juneteenth, one of Missouri’s 13 state holidays, honors the end to slavery in the United States.
Columbia officials say residential curbside trash will not be collected today and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. The Go COMO public transit system is not operating today, and parking enforcement is suspended. The Albert-Oakland family aquatic center, Lake of the Woods pool and Douglass family aquatic center will be open today from 1-5 pm.
Banks and financial institutions are closed today, and there will be no regular mail delivery.
