Motorists call for changes at Columbia’s Paris and Vandiver intersection, after deadly collision

Columbia Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in Friday’s collision at Paris road and Vandiver as 49-year-old Mark Lamont.

CPD investigators say the crash happened when a Fulton motorist turned left into the path of Lamont, who was unable to avoid colliding with the Fulton man’s Dodge Dakota.

Lamont, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle. Lamont was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Listeners describe Mr. Lamont as a talented artist.

CPD’s investigation continues, and anyone with information about the crash should call Columbia Police at (573) 874-7652.

Meantime, Columbia resident Scott Elam and several other 939 the Eagle listeners describe the Paris and Vandiver intersection as dangerous. Mr. Elam is calling on transportation officials to do away with the flashing left turn light, saying it “causes more wrecks than anything I’ve seen.”

Resident Linda McBride drives through that intersection daily, describing it as “a bad intersection.”

You can weigh in on the conversation on 939 the Eagle’s Facebook page.
