MSHP’s White on Wednesday’s I-70 bridge crash

Interstate 70 traffic was at a standstill for hours Wednesday after a crash on the Rocheport Missouri River bridge.

“There’s one way in and one way out when it comes to that bridge, and our problem was not only the vehicles, but also debris,” said Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Scott White. “We had a lot of sheet metal that was scattered along the westbound lanes there.”

White said the jammed traffic also required them to bring ambulances down the wrong way on the interstate just to get to the scene.

Westbound I-70 was closed for nearly 6 hours. One person was injured.
