COVID-19 is hitting Boone County hospitals hard again.
Health officials say they are operating at “yellow” status, meaning resources are strained and some surgeries are being delayed. Margaret Day with MU Health Care says University Hospital had 57 COVID-19 patients as of Monday afternoon.
“Most [patients] are unvaccinated, and we’re seeing a younger cohort now,” said Day on Wake Up Columbia. “Most are in the 40- to 60-year old age range.”
Day says the best plan to limit hospitalizations going forward is having more people get the vaccine.
